George Jones – Rest In Peace, Possum #gjpossum

26 Apr

Famous country singer George Jones died today.  He was 81 years-young.  At one time he was married to another famous country singer, Tammy Wynette.

“All Fall Down” with Emmylou Harris is a beautiful song.

“The Race Is On” is good too.

And all the songs he sang with Tammy Wynette, like “My Elusive Dreams” or “When I Stop Dreaming.”

“You Don’t Seem To Miss Me” when he sings with Patty Loveless is wonderful.

Lyrics to “You Don’t Seem To Miss Me”:

It’s a long way off from where I should be goin’
And every time, I hate to leave your side
But now when I return, there’s somethin’ missin’.
When I’m gone you don’t seem to miss me.

Now life’s so fast and everything is changing’
And if your changing too, then I don’t blame you.
I remember how you used to kiss me,
But when I’m gone you don’t seem to miss me.

I’m going back, I wonder why,
I’m runnin’ fast to get home.
I just can’t wait to see your face but
You don’t seem to miss me.

No one can take away the things you’ve given,
And all the good we’ve had alone together
There was a time when you could not resist me.
Now I’m gone and you don’t seem to miss me.

I’m going back, I wonder why,
I’m runnin’ fast to get home.
I just can’t wait to see your face but
You don’t seem to miss me.

I can’t wait to see your face
But you don’t seem to miss me.

I will miss his low, sexy voice.

“Think about it, there must be higher love
Down in the heart or hidden in the stars above
Without it, life is a wasted time
Look inside your heart, I’ll look inside mine
Things look so bad everywhere
In this whole world, what is fair?
We walk blind and we try to see
Falling behind in what could be

Bring me a higher love.”

Chrissy Amphlett – Rest In Peace

22 Apr

I am so sad that Chrissy passed away on Sunday from breast cancer.  She also had multiple sclerosis.  She was a cool singer and the lead singer of The Divinyls.  She was raw and sexy and 53-years-young.  A big influence on me when I first heard her sing in the 1980’s.

I love this song:

Pleasure and Pain

and my favorite was

Boys in Town

Here are some of the lyrics to Boys in Town:

I am through with hanging around
All the boys in town
Now I want a man around
Get me out of here

Now I am a just red brassiere
To all the boys in town
Put this bus in top gear
And get me out of here

I must have been desperate
I must have been pretty low
I must have been desperate
I must have been pretty low

I was always driving home
All the boys in town
But they never telephoned
Get me out of here

I think they’re pretty phoney
You’re not like the rest
You’ve heard of matrimony
They’ve all flunked the test

Unfortunately the last 18 months have been a real challenge for me having breast cancer and MS and all the new places that will take you.You become sadly a patient in a world of waiting rooms, waiting sometimes hours for a result or an appointment and you spend a lot time in cold machines like MRI,CT machines, hospital beds,on your knees praying for miracles, operating rooms, tests after tests, looking at healthy people skip down the street like you once did and you took it all for granted and now wish you could do that.
I have not stopped singing throughout all this in my dreams and to be once again performing and doing what I love to do.I have been writing the occassional song with a wonderful collaborator Kraig Jarret and two weeks ago we performed some of those songs in NYC in the West Village. My illnesses have really exhausted this little body of mine that I have thrown from one end of a stage to another and performed thousands of shows thats sadly some of you missed. With that said I am getting stronger but there is still some fine tuning and work to be done on myself. It’s a different self but my voice is strong and not affected by the MS as some reviewers have cruelly reported.I can walk altho sometimes I wobble but try to wobble with the beat.I look after myself and my husband has been through this with me every part of the way and I cannot imagine what I would have done without him and his kindness.I did something right. My lttle dog Holiday lays on the end of the bed when I am not feeling great and doesn’t leave my side.I don’t reach out to people and talk about what I go through as we are all going through something and for someone who once was fancy free I have all of this in my life “So I Know”.I am grateful to have the knowledge that all of this has shown me and I feel privledged that I am strong enough to “know” and share that it’s really alright.I will sing again,I will perform again but this time “I know” I hope you understand what I mean and if you don’t you will one day and be grateful.Yes Lawrence What A Life and this is Life.We must never be afraid.

Pete Townshend + Illinois #illinois

22 Apr

Well, Mr. Townshend does not have a Twitter page, and I’m disappointed in this.  I thought his book Who I Am was excellent.  Not only did he write most of The Who’s songs, but his book was well-written.

I live in the Midwest, and I really liked it when I read in his book that he had an epiphany while in Illinois.  It’s good to know that some good things come out of the Midwest:

Trisha Yearwood

21 Apr

I was watching the Country Music Awards a couple weeks ago (much to the dismay of my husband and son) and saw how stunning Trisha Yearwood looked!  Turns out she has lost 30 pounds in 4 months!  I like her no matter how much she weighs.  She has always been full-figured so this is a big change for her.

Here is more about her weight loss from People Magazine.

A couple of my favorite songs of hers are Try Me, Sing You Back To Me, but my most favorite song is Woman Walk The Line.  Emmylou Harris, Don Henley, Vince Gill, and Yearwood’s hubby Garth Brooks sings back up vocals.

Here are the lyrics to Woman Walk The Line…I bolded my favorite lyrics!

Woman Walk The Line – Written by Trisha Yearwood

Don’t bother sittin’ at my table
Just because I’m on my own
Yes I’m a woman and I’m lonely
But that don’t mean I can’t be strong

Once again he’s not beside me
And tonight he won’t be coming home
So I just need a place to miss my baby
When he goes out to do me wrong

Tonight I wanna do some drinkin’
I came to listen to the band
Yes I’m as good as what you’re thinkin’
But I don’t wanna hold your hand
And I know I’m lookin’ lonely
But there’s nothin’ here I wanna find
It’s just the way of a woman
When she goes out to walk the line

Every night’s a little longer
Than the one that came before
But when I hear them sing a sad song
I know just what I’m cryin’ for

I don’t wanna stay home waitin’
Don’t have to wonder where he’s been
He’ll be someone else’s baby
Before he’s in my arms again

Jordandal Cookhouse

15 Apr

I read about the Jordandal Cookhouse in a local newspaper.  I didn’t even know it existed.  It got good reviews.  I went there for lunch on my birthday.  It’s in the same strip mall where we get our Chinese food.  Jordandal’s is a take out place.  I ordered a Muffuletta sandwich.

When I came home, I cut the sandwich in half.  But before I cut it in half or took a bite, I took a photo of it for you.

When I took that first bite…..OMG!!!!!!!!!!!  An amazing harmonious combination of flavors exploding in my mouth.

jordandal_8383 blog

All of the meat is raised at  Jordandal’s farm.  Everything else is locally procured.  The sandwich consisted of ham, farmer’s cheese, Italian bratwurst, pickled vegetable mayo, and olive salad on a hoagie.  The hoagie was incredible.

I’m not done yet….here is a close up!

I hope you go there soon.

Not Annoyed: Starbucks Cuts The Price of Its Bagged Coffee #starbucks

14 Apr

starbucks_1056 blogI am glad that Starbucks is going to lower the price of its bagged coffee from $9.99 to $8.99.  I think the price was only $8.99 a few months ago and recently I noticed the price was $10 and did not like this and was definitely going to try some new brands.  Buying this coffee is one of my few splurges.  Rarely do I buy a cup of coffee when I can make a delicious cup and bring it with me in my car.  I drink a cup of tea when I first wake up, and then I drink a cup of coffee around 10am.

What are your caffeine habits?

Happy Birthday To Me #aries

12 Apr

I am happy to be living another year longer!  For some reason I am very excited about my birthday today.  I think it’s because I took the day off from work and it’s so nice to be at home when I’m normally working.  And I have a three-day weekend!

I already went to a hot yoga class and I’m sure that later I won’t be able to walk because I will be so sore.  I’m going to take myself out for lunch now and hopefully take some cool photos somewhere.
Have a great day!

Lilly Pulitzer 1931-2013 #lillypulitzer #corricopb

7 Apr

When I was younger I became aware of Lilly Pulitzer shifts (dresses) when looking at fashion magazines.  I loved her bright floral prints.  If you don’t know who Lilly was, read about her here.

After my son was born in Manhattan, my mom and I would take my son in his stroller and walk to Bloomingdale’s from Chelsea.  My mom would watch over my son as I tried on Lilly Pulitzer dresses.  I bought a couple – one I got on sale for $30!

My son and I in Truro, Massachusetts. My Lilly dress is from Bloomingdale’s in Manhattan.

I was hooked and bought more dresses from the store C. Orrico in Florida.  They would ship me dresses in my size, I would try them on, keeping the ones I wanted to buy and return the rest!  Those were the days!

I don't remember where I bought this Lilly but it was my favorite because it was like a housewife dress from the 1950's. I still own it!

I also bought vintage Lilly Pulitzer dresses on ebay.  I have sold most of my Lilly dresses, but I loved wearing them when I worked in Manhattan.  The Lilly dresses were perfect to wear on those hot, muggy, humid East Coast days.

Lilly Pulitzer, I honor you for the business you created!  Thank you for the joy and memories your dresses brought me.

Taqueria Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin

5 Apr

As you know, I’m a sucker for great Mexican food.  Last summer I finally stopped by Taqueria Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant in Madison, Wisconsin.  If I haven’t made this clear before, if I post about a restaurant, it means I recommend it.

taqueriaguadalajara_6826 blogThere are a lot of Mexican people in Madison, but not really many good Mexican restaurants.  In Manhattan there aren’t many Mexican people, and there aren’t many good Mexican restaurants.   Anyway, they gave me two different kinds of salsa and green and yellow chips.  Yum!

taqueriaguadalajara_6828 blogI gotta have my Diet Pepsi with Mexican food when I go out.  But I rarely drink soft drinks.  The Valentina hot sauce was great!  I love hot sauce!
