Lilly Pulitzer 1931-2013 #lillypulitzer #corricopb

7 Apr

When I was younger I became aware of Lilly Pulitzer shifts (dresses) when looking at fashion magazines.  I loved her bright floral prints.  If you don’t know who Lilly was, read about her here.

After my son was born in Manhattan, my mom and I would take my son in his stroller and walk to Bloomingdale’s from Chelsea.  My mom would watch over my son as I tried on Lilly Pulitzer dresses.  I bought a couple – one I got on sale for $30!

My son and I in Truro, Massachusetts. My Lilly dress is from Bloomingdale’s in Manhattan.

I was hooked and bought more dresses from the store C. Orrico in Florida.  They would ship me dresses in my size, I would try them on, keeping the ones I wanted to buy and return the rest!  Those were the days!

I don't remember where I bought this Lilly but it was my favorite because it was like a housewife dress from the 1950's. I still own it!

I also bought vintage Lilly Pulitzer dresses on ebay.  I have sold most of my Lilly dresses, but I loved wearing them when I worked in Manhattan.  The Lilly dresses were perfect to wear on those hot, muggy, humid East Coast days.

Lilly Pulitzer, I honor you for the business you created!  Thank you for the joy and memories your dresses brought me.

I love your post, and I’m about to launch a giveaway of a Lilly Pulitzer handbag. She really was an inspiration! I love your dresses! Fantastic! Hold onto them. I’m guessing they are going to be worth a fortune, eventually!
