“You saved me, you know. Life had me running. Had me by the throat, and I really was falling under, losing hope. And then I met you, and you gave me a reason to keep my head above water. You taught me to swim. You taught me to live.”

“The absolute truth…I did not forget it.  It worked its way into my brain and then stuck its foot in the door so that other bits of wisdom might follow, while back in present time, I slipped beneath the surface of the water and swam away.”

Workin’ On A Big Chill – #TGIF

22 Mar

The other weekend I had a Big Chill Weekend…by myself.  I needed to get away from it all so I went to a hotel for a couple nights, using points.  I brought 27 magazines that had piled up at my house, looked through them,

magazines_9990 blog

worked on my blogs, swam, and watched cable TV.  We don’t have cable TV and once again, from channel surfing through the cable channels, I am reminded and grateful that we DO NOT have cable!  I mostly watched The Food Network and HGTV.

Oh, I also ate but was very chillaxed about it.  I was craving TGI Fridays potato skins.  (When I was anticipating my weekend, eating the skins was a goal.  But other goals fell through the cracks.)  I hadn’t eaten at a TGI Fridays in 6 years.  Last time I ordered potato skins, I could order a half order (4 skins), but now they don’t have that option.  So I ate 4 at dinner and 4 the next day for lunch in my hotel room.  The potato skins totally remind me of my sister – eating them and drinking margaritas at TGI Fridays in Los Angeles.

For Spinko.

The very nice waiter told me they started using better bacon and cheese.

I also ordered a wedge salad which consists of blue cheese dressing, iceberg lettuce, bacon and tomatoes.  It was excellent!

Here comes the weekend
Sure could use some relaxation to shake these blues
Hand me my sun shades
I’m checkin’ out of here
I’m workin’ on a big chill
Lord I’m workin’ on a big chill

Oceana Santa Barbara #santabarbara

hotel203 blogMany years ago, when my husband and I were dating, we stayed at the Ambassador By The Sea Motel in Santa Barbara, California.  I just came across these matches that I took from the hotel as a souvenir.   Since then, of course, they have remodeled and it’s now called Oceana Santa Barbara.  It’s across the street from the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara.  It’s on prime Santa Barbara land and in a very touristy area.  On Sundays there is the Santa Barbara Arts and Crafts Festival, which has fabulous items, all handmade in Santa Barbara.  The hotel still looks like a cute place to stay.

I would like to be in Santa Barbara right now!  Don’t tell me you are going there!  But please tell me if you have been there!

Courtyard Marriott in Marina Del Rey, California

2 Mar

It was interesting to stay in my favorite Courtyard Marriott in Marina Del Rey, California for the first time in two years.   It’s off of Lincoln Blvd and Maxella.

So much has changed in that neighborhood in two years.  I could no longer see the hotel from the intersection of Lincoln and Maxella.  There is a trendy-looking condo building called The Stella on the corner that blocks the view of the Marriott.

My son and I walked over to see the movie Skyfall at the AMC Loews Marina 6 Theatre.

Turns out they serve alcohol there and because of that don’t allow people under the age of 21!!!  WE WERE SO DISAPPOINTED and…pissed off and inconvenienced, might I add!!!

So we walked over to the Marina Del Rey United Artists movie theater and it’s been CLOSED down!!!  Basically, there is nowhere within walking distance to see a movie in that neighborhood anymore if you are under 21 years young.  That sucked!

They do have a Fatburger close by though, and I always love going there.  But I didn’t take a photo of my Fatburger burger because sometimes with food I chow it down before I remember to take the picture!

Back to the Courtyard Marriott…The rooms had been remodeled and I always feel at home there.  And they have a pool that I can swim laps in.

The BEST THING is eating their cooked-in-front-of-you breakfast omelettes in their restaurant.  They are DELICIOUS and the salsa they serve is home made.  The potatoes and bacon are excellent too!!!  The cooks and food servers are friendly and I love eating there every morning when I’m at the Courtyard Marriott.

“Why do people move?  What makes them uproot and leave everything they’ve known for a great unknown beyond the horizon?  What climb this Mount Everest of formalities that make you feel like a beggar?  Why enter this jungle of foreignness where everything is new, strange and difficult?  The answer is the same the world over:  people move in the hope of a better life.”  – By Yann Martel from his book Life of Pi

Kalahari Resort – Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin #kalahariresorts

23 Aug

When my son’s best friend visits us each summer in Wisconsin, I take them to Kalahari Resorts Water Park in the Wisconsin Dells.  We arrive when it opens so I can find a place to sit that is in the shade.  I bring magazines and a book to read.  You can check out the ticket prices on their web site, but for the two young adults it cost $37 each.  I was happy to learn that they have a “spectator” ticket for $10 and that is what I was when I went there on Tuesday.  It saved me $27!

I think it’s a safe and clean place.  I just plop down in my shady chair and the boys run around indoors and outdoors.

It would be fun to rent a cabana there and hang with my family.

This is my son’s friend.  Behind him, you can see how nice the outdoor park is.

If you get there early enough, you can swim laps in one of the pools.

I think all water parks should have a pool where people who like to swim and exercise can swim laps.

In this photo I want you to concentrate on the nice jacuzzi and stone work behind the two young adults.  I did not ask them to make those gestures.
