Realities Must Be Ignored

30 Jan

“Faith is not a thing to mess with; in order for it to endure, certain realities must be ignored.”

Susan Branch

This photo is from the video China Girl. China Girl was filmed in 1983 in Sydney’s Chinatown district. Geeling Ng is the beautiful woman who starred in the video. The song was written by Iggy Pop and David Bowie in 1977. China Girl is one of my favorite songs.

Somebody Up There Likes Me

14 Jan

Iman posted this to her Instagram account on January 10, the one-year anniversary of David Bowie’s passing. What a fantastic double rainbow shot, and love the dramatic lighting. Good capture. Wonder if she shot it herself, from the balcony of where they live in Soho? It’s a feel-good, hopeful photo.

Somebody Up There Likes Me lyrics by David Bowie

He’s so divine, his soul shines.
Breaks the night, sleep tight.
His ever loving face smiles on the whole human race.
He says, “I’m somebody.”
He’s got his eye on your soul, his hand on your heart.

Somebody up there (somebody) likes me.
Nothing left his eye unmoved. He
Had the plan, he had to use (somebody).
He’s so divine, his soul shines (somebody).
Breaks the night, sleep tight (somebody out there, somebody).
His ever loving face smiles on the whole human race (somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody out there).

What I Say

“I usually don’t agree with what I say very much.” — David Bowie

I miss you.

Hang On To Yourself

If you think you’re going to make it, you’d better hang to yourself.

I’ll Wave My Flag

1 Dec

Just look through your window; look who sits outside.
Little me is waiting, standing through the night.
When you’ll walk through your door, I’ll wave my flag and shout.

We’ll Buy Some Drugs

13 Sep

With you by my side, it should be fine.
We’ll buy some drugs and watch a band,
Then jump in the river holding hands.

Song Candidate by David Bowie.

I’ll Steal Every Moment

11 Sep

I’m glad that you’re older than me;
Makes me feel important and free.
Does that make you smile? Isn’t that me?
I’m in your way, and I’ll steal every moment.

Song Sweet Thing by David Bowie.

Get It Here

If you want it, boys, get it here, thing.
‘Cause hope, boys, is a cheap thing, cheap thing.

Will you see that I’m scared and I’m lonely?
So I’ll break up my room and yawn, and I
Run to the centre of things.

Song Sweet Thing by David Bowie.

It’s Safe In The City

Song Sweet Thing by David Bowie.

Pin Ups

David Bowie didn’t write any of the songs for this cover album. I loved all the songs. I listened to it endlessly on my record player when I lived in California. I remember painting Twiggy in my art class when I was 17. I don’t know where the original acrylic is; I think I destroyed it.

Come out of the garden, baby.
You’ll catch your death in the fog.
Young girl, they call them the Diamond Dogs.

Your Living End

30 Aug

When the clothes are strewn
don’t be afraid of the room.
Touch the fullness of her breast.
Feel the love of her caress.
She will be your living end.

Song Lady Grinning Soul by David Bowie. Written about Claudia Lennear.

Another Grinning Soul

She’ll come, she’ll go.
She’ll lay belief on you.
Skin sweet with musky oil—
The lady from another grinning soul.
